Transition in SA

We’re very excited about the coming weekend and all the enthusiasm, skills and keen interest that we’ll all be bringing with us to our Transition event.

Getting to the Food Forest

Many of you will be familiar with the Food Forest venue and we are very grateful and pleased to have the Brookman’s hosting us at their wonderful permaculture property. Apart from everything else, we know that this will mean wonderful local and fresh and organic food! If you aren’t sure how to get there, here’s the link to maps and other information to assist. We’re starting 8.30 on Saturday and 9.00 on Sunday.

Jeremy has put together some extra information for those cycling and train & walk or cycle as follows:

Getting there by foot or bike

If coming from Adelaide you can catch the train up in the morning. As you need to be at the Food Forest around 8am for registration (the first session kicks off at 8.30) we would recommend catching the 6.50 train from Adelaide which gets you to Tambelin at 7.38

If you are planning to walk to the Food Forest you will need to give yourself at least 20 minutes from Tambelin station. We can meet people at 7.38 am Tambelin station if the walk is too far, if required. However, please let us know in advance if you would like to be collected from the station.

Cycling is probably the easiest way to get there as you combine the dual mode convenience of train and pedal power. We have published a map of cycling from the Tambelin station to the Food Forest here    http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Tambelin-Station-to-the-Food-Forest

If riding you might choose to catch the 7.23 train out of Adelaide which get to Tambelin by 8.08. It only takes about 5 minutes to ride to the Food Forest.

Let us know if you are planning to ride a bike as Adelaide Metro can sometimes make sure there is a bicycle friendly carriage on the service if notified in advance. Also if you want to car pool contact us. So far a request for ride from Aldinga and offer of ride from Brompton.

Getting Ready for the Weekend

We recognise that we’ll all be bringing experience, ideas and questions along for the weekend so the programme is based around participation and more participation!

If you haven’t checked out what Open Space and World Cafe are about then have a peek at the links. We’ll all have the opportunity to experience these processes in action.

Many of us now have the Transition Handbook and have begun to explore the pages and processes described. We’d like to have everyone familiar with some Transition concepts and if you haven’t had the opportunity to read the Handbook then we’d suggest downloading the Transition Primer

I’m sure we already know of your dietary preferences and any other requirements, but if there’s more we need to know then get in touch.

Make sure that you’re bringing pens and papers and the ideas that you’d like to contribute in the various sessions. For the Cafe sessions you’ll be encouraged to be creative in recording on the “tablecloth”, so bring your artistic flair and materials!

Whilst it will be sunny and bright in our hearts, the weather may be something else, so come prepared for the possibility of cold and wet.

Slow Food Lunches, Celebratory Dinner and Party

As you’ll see on the programme we’ll be experiencing “Slow Food Lunch” which will be good for our digestion and outlook on the world. Also there’ll plenty of time to network and connect with other participants.

The Saturday evening we hand over to more sensory enjoyment with dinner & party. Bring your musicality and other favourites and beverages.
