Transition in SA

Introducing the Transition Movement to SA, 22nd & 23rd August 2009

Venue: The Food Forest, South Australia (Directions & How to get there)

Many have heard of Transition Towns, Transition Movement and Energy Descent.

Here’s an opportunity to get to know more about Transition and why it’s generating so much hope and interest around the world.

Transition Towns is people in local communities working together to provide a practical response to the challenges of climate change, peak oil & the economic consequences1. It’s a focus for local action recognising that change to respond to these challenges is inevitable and the sooner we understand and prepare for the low carbon energy future, the more resilient we become. Here’s a useful starting place from David Holmgren 2 to understand these Future Scenarios - mapping the cultural implications of Peak Oil & Climate Change.

Local solutions to these global problems and action starting straight away!

The Transition Towns idea has been spreading rapidly in the UK and now the USA, Australia & NZ.

Here’s what the Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre is doing about Transition.

There are already some Transition Initiatives happening in SA and more in the making so here’s our opportunity to talk about what we are and will be doing.

This is a weekend ‘immersion’ in all things Transition, 22nd & 23rd August, at the Food Forest, SA.

We’re introducing Transition and exploring and learning about the concepts, actions and successes that are coming out of this rapidly developing movement.

Rob Hopkins and his Transition Culture blog describe the recent evolution of the astonishing interest and spread of this movement. We anticipate making Rob’s book “Transition Handbook” part of the registration package for the weekend and using the meeting processes of “Open Space” and “World Café” 3.

Join us for this exciting weekend opportunity to get to know Transition and a Vision for Transition SA!
