Peak Oil

We are half way through using the world’s endowment of this ancient ‘buried sunshine’ resource of crude oil. The dependence of our modern world on this and the other fossil fuel energy resources for transport, agriculture and a myriad of petrochemical products is generally undervalued. Economic theory denies the impact of resource limits and the pivotal role of
energy resources in growth.

Our Permaculture Farm grows food organically and harvests the solar energy via plants’ photosynthesis. On the path of energy descent, from this peak of energy consumption, permaculture will offer valuable principles and resources - a template for informed action & strategy.

‘Fossil Fuel Oil’ or crude oil is a precious and finite resource. The world is now entering the time when crude oil production can only decline and no longer  grow. When exploration finds only fewer and smaller new fields, production cannot grow to meet new demand.

“The 100-year period when most of the world’s oil will be produced is known as ‘Hubbert’s Peak’ (Oil Peak). On this scale, the geological time needed to form the oil resources can be visualised by extending the line eight kilometres to the left.”  Kenneth S Deffeyes, 2001, ‘Hubbert’s Peak: the impending world oil shortage’ Princeton University Press.
